Books4: Yourself

As many of your responsibilities cool down as the temperature heats up, you may find yourself trying to fill your new found free time. Reading has become a fruitful, beneficial hobby for me and I’d like to share a few of my self-help favourites.

  1. How to Win Friends and Influence People – After years of my mom nagging me about this book, we purchased it on our trip to Portland (post coming 13.06.18) at Powells City of Books. Published in 1937, this book has become a bible for a countless number of successful individuals. The interactive part of this book is what made it truly noteworthy for me. Author, Dale Carnegie, encourages the reader to not only read his text, but experience it. Taking breaks between parts allows you to become conscious of his points, ultimately developing them into habits. Since I’ve read it, I got a job I was barely qualified for, became more aware of my interactions, and have gotten closer to those around me. I am in awe of this book and the psychology behind it, thus encouraging you to see what it will do for you!
  2. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – This book has influenced me in so many ways. It introduced me to life changing principles, new ways of thinking (Win-win), and more. Like the book above, basically, this book will teach you about effective ways to be a compassionate, kind, enjoyable human being by teaching you about personal responsibility (personal as in to your self, and to others).
  3. You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life – If straight concepts and information is less appealing to you, I thought You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life is the most youthful and entertaining out of the three. The advice itself lacks originality however it is presented in a way that is easy to read, motivational, and fun. Jen Sincero is witty and uses some colourful language, so if you’re open minded and down with that – you will get a lot from this book.

Everything you read fills you with new bits of information, and you never know when it might come in handy. These three books have filled me with helpful knowledge, consequently making me better-equipped to tackle the unavoidable challenges I am consistently faced with. I encourage you to pick up one or all of these, I am hopeful you won’t regret it!
